The attractions of the Gulf of Castellammare

Alcamo: its history, its culture, its monuments and the Streets of Wine
It is a town of the province of Trapani. Situated in the center of the Gulf of Castellammare, it rises to the feet of the Bonifato Mountain. It represents one of the principal centers in Sicily for the production of the wine. Alcamo has become famous, a lot of years ago, for the poetry of the known poet Cielo d’Alcamo " Rosa Fresca aulentissima", one of the first tangible testimony of the use of the vulgar Italian. From the cultural point of view, Alcamo saw the blooming of activities tied to the arts, as the building of churches and buildings at first in Baroque style, then Renaissance style, with the influx of numerous personalities of international level: painters, sculptors and artists who have embellished the image of the city.

Castellammare del Golfo: the ancient port of Segestans
It gives its name to the homonym gulf in front of the castle. It is a famous seaside resorts, known for its beaches of gold sand and for the beauty of the sea backdrops where it is possible to do excursions along an archaeological path. The territory presents also several suggestive coves as Cala Bianca, Cala Rossa, the beach of Guidaloca and the Faraglioni of Scopello. It can be visited the ancient Tonnara used up to end of '80 for the fishing of tuna (Scopello).

Gibellina: the city lives again in the charm of Orestiadi
City Museum in the province of Trapani. Totally destroyed by the earthquake, of the old town, now remain only ruins. The new one instead, has been designed by several contemporary artists,it is developed in an original way and has taken an extraordinary artistic value. Since 1981,the international festival “Orestiadi” takes place with events ranging from theater to music, from painting to sculpture, film.

The Cathedral of Monreale and its mosaics of gold
Situated at 5 km from Palermo. The most representative construction of Monreale is the Cathedral built among 1172 and 1176, in which it is possible to admire the famous byzantine mosaic of the Christ Pantocreatore, in an indescribable atmosphere of mysticism and solemnity.

La Riserva dello Zingaro, a natural paradise harsh and fascinating
It is an orientated path on the coast of 7 km, formed by a rocky coast intercalated of several coves.The reserve extends in the western part of the Gulf of Castellammare to the peninsula of S.Vito lo Capo that looks out to the Tyrrhenian Sea, between Castellammare del Golfo and Trapani.Symbol of the reserve is the dwarf palm (Chamaerops humilis) that used for manufactured articles for daily use, represented once a great source of income.
